A-Z of Crime Prevention: WEAPONS |
||
Good afternoon I hope you have had a lovely weekend. We are nearing the end of this A-Z of Crime Prevention weekly newsletter with just a month to go. Thank you for following on and engaging with the content which is primarily created by officers from your Neighbourhood Policing Team. Since the 1st January 2025, we have welcomed 496 registered users to Herts Connected bringing our total number of active users to 6561. Whilst I’ve got your attention, I just wanted to draw your attention to some of the features of these Herts Connected messages which will help you get the most out of the system and share the information we send out. Reply - You can contact your Neighbourhood Policing Team by clicking “Reply” to any message that has been sent to you. Ideally, it will help if you are responding to the content within the message, but if you just want to reach out to us about any issue affecting you or you want to speak to your local officer, you can make this request by messaging us in this way. Share – You can share out messages via Social Media platforms such as Facebook, X, WhatsApp or Messenger. This helps our messages have a further reach and get to residents who may not have heard of the Herts Connected service. We want everyone to be connected to their local Policing Team and social media is such a useful tool to help us do this! Rate – You can give us a thumbs up or thumbs down to let us know how you have found the content. This helps us understand who is reading our content, who finds it useful and relevant to their community, and what sort of content to create in the future. Survey – We often send out links to surveys to get your feedback and comments on local issues. If you would like the opportunity to complete a survey but haven’t been forwarded the link to do so, please just let us know by Replying to any message. By completing a survey, we will be able to provide updates on the actions we have taken to tackle the issues that matter to you. This week’s newsletter topic is Weapons. You may have recently seen some messaging and posts relating to Operation Sceptre which is a National Initiative to tackle knife crime. Whilst this was a week of action to highlight this topic, our work to identify and tackle knife crime or crimes involving a weapon is ongoing. In positive news, we held Knife Amnesties across the county as a means of getting bladed weapons off our streets and 76 blades were surrendered thanks to this outreach. Whilst knife crime is lower in Hertfordshire compared to surrounding counties in the UK, we are committed to working with partner agencies to stamp out serious violence and, in particular, to have early interventions with young people so that they are informed of the detrimental consequences of carrying a blade. On that note, we want to remind Hertfordshire residents that carrying a knife only adds to your vulnerability, placing you in dangerous situations, at risk of serious harm, and can lead to criminal convictions. Though we are committed to robust enforcement of individuals who choose to carry weapons, we acknowledge that tackling the root cause of violence and knife crime relies on strong working relationships with our partners such as Trading Standards, Local Authorities, Schools and Educational Facilities, and Businesses such as Pubs and Clubs. You may have noticed some Local Policing Teams conducting knife sweeps across St Albans. These patrols rely on intelligence provided by the public. Reports could include, for instance, suspicious behaviour in an area; concerns of Anti-Social Behaviour in a specific area; locations where you may feel unsafe walking due to perceived gangs or illicit behaviours. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if there are any areas within the St Albans District which attract this kind of anti-social behaviour so we can assess if a knife sweep would be beneficial. Thank you for reading along. Next week, the letter of the week is X. What topic do you think will be discussed? Kind regards, Fiona. | ||
